A number of major roads are experiencing flooding due to Florence, prompting NC Governor Roy Cooper to ask travelers to avoid the state completely.
“Stay off the roads in most parts of the state of North Carolina especially south of US64 and east of US 73/74. Don’t make yourself someone who needs to be rescued,” said Cooper.
According to the NCDOT, I-95 near Rocky Mount, NC is closed all the way south to Godwin, NC. Drivers are also being asked to avoid Interstate 40 near Willard, NC to Castle Hayne.
Drivers who would travel through North Carolina will be detoured completely around the state. You can see the detour map here.
Call 511 from your cell phone or 877-511-4662 to get road closure information.
If you do come to a flooded road – follow these safety tips.
