Durham Central Park
If you’ve got the morning off and like trees, this is for you: This free event includes workshops, food trucks, demonstrations, and a giveaway of Shortleaf Pine saplings, courtesy of Duke Forest. The giveaway is first come, first served. And while you’re there, you’ll have a chance to volunteer to help plant trees in the park. Everything you’ll need to participate will be supplied.

Downtown Raleigh
Downtown Raleigh showcases its art, music and food at their monthly gallery walk. Dozens of venues will be hosting art receptions. You’ll also find lots of deals on food and drinks. Also, visit CAM Raleigh for free, and stop by the North Carolina Museum of History for beer samples from Fortnight Brewing, while they last.

Durham Bulls Athletic Park, 409 Blackwell Street Durham
This free event will get you in the mood for the upcoming baseball season. Take photos with the team’s 2017 Triple-A National Championship and Governors’ Cup trophies, take batting practice, play catch in the outfield, take self-guided tours of the clubhouse and Bull Durham Brewery. If you purchase a ticket to a 2018 Bulls game at the event you’ll receive a free hot dog and soda.

Cary’s annual kite festival is open to all ages and is free to attend. It’s also free to compete in any of the many competitions, including quickest take-off, best crash, best homemade kite, most unique kite, largest kite, most un-flyable kite and many more.
